Who are you?

I'm Sophie, physics graduate and ex-patent examiner, now artist behind Sad Cypress.

What's the vision?

I have done so much behind the scenes for (as yet, arguably!) little payoff, but it's given me so much knowledge of subjects I would never otherwise have known about. It genuinely frustrates me to think of each musician having to independently research the same information, and often having the same problems and misunderstandings.

Arguably more importantly, I'm a big picture thinker and I enjoy playing with and synthesising ideas, with my background in science and interest in philosophy informing me. Considering the state of the music industry as a whole, including its history, with a particular how it's being affected by technology, in conjunction with my ethical principles will make this a platform unlike any other ✨

(We also may even release a song or two 😉)

Why is it called Wheel of Fortune Records?

Well for one I thought it sounded great! I upgraded my Distrokid account and realised I could now create my own label name. I looked around the room and spotted a deck of tarot cards and thumbing through them the Wheel of Fortune card really stood out.

Everything I do is informed and inspired by my spiritual principles - if you absolutely had to give me a label I could call myself a hermeticist. My values are being of service and acting from the heart, while acknowledging I myself am a work in progress.

In the anonymous Meditations on the Tarot, the Wheel of Fortune card is described as:

Any other plans?

Yes... Ultimately I would like to make this a medium for bringing people together through in-person events.
